I’m going to be sending all yall followers of this blog obnoxious reminders in your ask boxes today. Just a warning!
Entries are officially due today, but I know our selection committee won’t be meeting for another few weeks due to various busy things, so you need until mid-November to finish something, that is a-ok by us.
Another reminder to just send us a relevant blog post, if you’re a busy bee and aren’t sure what to write. And hey, what’s a better way to spend Samhain (if you’re in the Northern hemisphere) than to reflect on and write about your practice?
Hope to hear from you soon!

At Hagstone we would like to give yall another way to think about submissions for this zine. What you submit doesn’t have to be strictly ‘new.’ Have you written a blog/tumblr post that you think would be suitable? FUCKING AWESOME. Send it to us!
The inspiration for this zine was not epic tomes of academic writing. To be frank, it was the breadth and critical bent of discussion of witchcraft, magic, and Pagan practice that I’ve seen on tumblr. On this site, I’m seeing some radical shit being discussed and written about, all in the format of a simple tumblr rant. Do I see that critical shit happening at Pagan gatherings and occult conferences? To be frank, not really. What’s happening on tumblr is unique and amazing, and chances are a lot of what you folks have already written on your blogs is exactly what Hagstone is looking for.
Just something to think about.
If you have the time, sift through your blog or tumblr. See if there’s any posts you’ve made that you really like.
(Bonus points for social justice.)

Are you running into trouble with your submission? Not sure what to write about? Send us an ask or an email - HagstoneJournal [at] Gmail [dot] com.
Even if you think your submission is rough and you aren’t happy with it - send it in anyway! We have a dedicated team working on making sure accepted submissions are polished, perty, and edited.
A reminder of topics we like:
We are interested in both deeply personal pieces about one’s own magical practice, as well as more scholarly essays which rely heavily on theory. And if your work falls somewhere in between – that’s okay too! All voices have a place in Hagstone.
Magic is a broad subject. It occurs across cultures and times in thousands of different forms. Hagstone has, at its core, a wish to celebrate and acknowledge all paths and traditions. Whether you’re a Luciferian, Hermeticist, Wiccan, Celtic Reconstructionist, a Spiritualist medium, we want to hear from you.
We especially welcome submissions concerning non-European forms of witchcraft, magic, and energy work, which may use a different name. We are not currently accepting visual works, poetry, or fiction.
Here’s a list of topics we find to be super interesting. We’d love to hear your take on anything listed below. However, this list is far from exhaustive! If it’s not listed, we’d still likely love to hear about it. What would you like to see? If you can help make this list better and more inclusive, don’t hesitate to email us at HagstoneJournal@gmail.com or send us an ask.

Hey everyone! This is just another good ol’ friendly reminder to think about your submission to Hagstone, if you’re planning on gracing us with your awesomeness! Something to remember is that this is for you, it’s for us - it’s for the magical community at large. I don’t want this to be just my voice. I want to hear all of yours. I want to hear from Luciferians, Satanists, Wiccans, Gnostic Christians, Heathens, Asatruar, Kemetics, Thelemites, Sabbatic Crafters - and everyone in between! There is no publication that I am aware of in which the voices of disparate magical practitioners are voiced, and I’d love to change that with your help!
If anyone has any suggestions, or if anyone wants to help, let me know. Or you can reblog this post - spread the word, and let us know what you want to write on!
The attached photos are of my Witchvox posting for Hagstone, and here’s the Facebook group - we’re slowly growing! Please ‘like’ us, if you’re on that site! Someone I presented with at the Canadian National Pagan Conference back in May has allowed Hagstone to publish some of or all of her paper - which was fantastic, and which I am very much looking to sharing with all of you!
Help me keep the ball rolling! Spread the word! And hey, what’re ya writin’ about?
xoxo
I’ve received a bunch of messages from folks asking how they can help out Hagstone. Well, I have one answer for you!
We have prepared a fancy flier! If you like, you can download a PDF of 4 of these fliers on one 8 1/2 x 11 in page, photocopy them, chop them up into quarters, and deliver them to your friends, your local occult shop, a witchcraft festival you’re going to next month, whatever!
Before you flier, remember that it’s always nice to ask folks if it’s alright. Make sure they don’t mind you setting down a pile of fliers - we don’t want to piss anyone off or step on anybody’s toes. Consensual flier placement only!
CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE PDF!
As a special bonus to folks who hand out fliers for us - you will get one FREE submission to the zine. In order for this to be valid, please send us a photo of a stack of fliers (the more the better) in your local occult shop. The more photos of the fliers in situ, the better - and we’d love a picture of the shop’s exterior!
Please send this info to HagstoneJournal@gmail.com
Thanks so much!

Oooowe… Have I reblogged this before? I’m reblogging again. I might have to scour something up to submit. :P
I’m definitely submitting a couple of things into this! I can edit my Sea & Water Magic article, and I think by the deadline I’ll have something about Dream Magic as well. (:
Awesome, we are SO stoked to read what you submit!
Sea & Water Magic? Dream Magic? Hells yeah!
We’ve gotten a lot of follows in the past few days since we posted our official call - thanks everyone!
PLEASE do us a favour and spread the word, reblog reblog reblog! And don’t be afraid to share with your friends off tumblr. The more voices we have for Hagstone, the better.
Does anyone have any ideas on what they might write about? Feel free to share!
Also, something I’m working on for this is getting a PDF of some small flyers you could print out and put around your neighbourhood witchy shop(s). Maybe a photo of the flyers in situ could be accepted in lieu of a submission fee? What do you guys think?
Please talk at me, ask questions, raise concerns, etc - I’d love for this to be a constantly evolving thing that is relevant to folks. I don’t want it to be stale and dead - and for that I need your help.
Thanks all!

Hagstone Journal of Occult Arts welcomes submissions from all practitioners of magic and witchcraft for our inaugural issue. The theme for this volume is ‘Beginning,’ to mark our entrance into the world. The theme is not meant to be stifling, but freeing – please feel free to interpret the word in any way you wish.
We are interested in both deeply personal pieces about one’s own magical practice, as well as more scholarly essays which rely heavily on theory. And if your work falls somewhere in between – that’s okay too! All voices have a place in Hagstone. Please note that below where the word ‘witchcraft’ is used, ‘magic’ can easily replace it. We welcome submissions from non-European forms of witchcraft, magic, and energy work, which may use a different name. We are not currently submitting visual works, poetry, or fiction.
